# Build a dashboard with the AI pane

> Build and edit a whole dashboard by chatting with the AI pane beside the canvas in Communicate - generate charts and KPIs, edit tiles and copy, apply a saved palette, and drive the board's filters.

When you open a dashboard in Communicate, an AI pane sits to the left of the canvas. It holds your dataset's fields and a chat box that can build and edit the whole board for you - the same Fields / AI pane you get in Analyze, pointed at dashboard design instead of a single chart.

## The tabs

- Fields - browse every column in the active dataset and drag one straight onto the canvas.
- AI - describe the dashboard you want and let the assistant build it.

## Describe your dashboard

Open the AI tab and type into the box that reads "How should I tell your data story?". On an empty board the pane reads "Design your dashboard" and offers two starters - "Add 3 interesting charts" and "I like KPIs" - or you can describe what you want in your own words. The board fills in as the assistant works.

## What it can do

- Generate a whole dashboard from a prompt - charts, KPIs, and a layout, placed as the board streams in.
- Add or edit tiles - add a chart or KPI, or rewrite a title, subtitle, or callout.
- Drive the filters - add an on-canvas filter control, restyle it, change its field, or filter the board's data.
- Apply a saved palette - name one of your saved chart palettes and the assistant recolors the whole board with its exact colors.

> **Note:** When you ask for a whole dashboard and the board already has content, Golden asks first: an "Apply …" dialog offers New Sheet or Replace Current, so a generation never overwrites your work without your say-so.

> **Tip:** A chat turn shows a live elapsed indicator while it works, and a Stop button to cancel it.

> **Note:** The AI pane appears once your analysis has a dataset attached. Hide or show it with the pane toggle in the dashboard's top bar.
