Dashboard Tabs turn a set of dashboards into one app. Your viewers get a single link, a shared header, and a row (or rail) of tabs to move between pages.

Each tab is a full dashboard of its own. You keep building pages the way you always have; Tabs just give them a front door.

### When to use Tabs

Use Tabs when one dashboard is trying to answer too many questions at once. A few examples:

- **A monthly business review.** Overview, Revenue, Pipeline, and Customers each get a page. Your exec team opens one link and clicks through in order.
- **A regional rollup.** One page per region, plus a summary page that opens first.
- **A team home base.** Marketing keeps Campaigns, Web Traffic, and Spend side by side, with notes on where the data comes from.
- **A drill path.** A summary page links to detail pages you've hidden from the tab strip, so viewers reach them only by clicking a button on the board.

If your dashboard scrolls forever, or you keep sending people three separate links, it's probably time for Tabs.

### Create a set of tabs

You can start from the toolbar or just ask chat.

**From the toolbar**

1. Open the dashboard you want as your first page.
2. In the toolbar, open the menu beside the **Object** tool and choose **Navigation tabs** (first under **Objects**).
3. Golden wraps your dashboard as the first tab and adds a blank second page, ready to build.

**From chat**

Ask chat to group dashboards you already have:

```
Put Overview, Revenue and Pipeline into tabs called "Q3 Business Review"
```

Chat groups them in the order you named them and uses your name as the app title.

> **Note:** A set of tabs can't be a tab inside another set of tabs. Each app is one level deep.

### Add, reorder, and remove pages

Open **Navigation settings** (the gear beside the tabs, or **Navigation settings** from any tab's menu). The **Pages** list holds every tab in order.

- **Add page** creates a new blank page at the end.
- **Drag** a page by its handle to reorder the tabs.
- **Move out of tabs** takes a page out of the app. The dashboard itself stays; it just stands on its own again.

![The Pages list in Navigation settings, with drag handles, the Add page button, and a page's menu open](https://app.goldenanalytics.com/api/help/public-image?object=96cc7920-4cf1-464b-bb53-51db5b69bca4%2F1793469028302-03-pages-list.png)

Removing the last page dissolves the app and leaves the dashboard in place. If you delete a page by accident, the **Undo** in the toast brings back the page and the app together.

### Edit a single tab

Hover any tab and click its edit button (or right-click it) to open the tab menu:

| Option | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Rename** | Changes the tab name. The tab name and the page's dashboard name are the same thing, so renaming one renames both. |
| **Change icon** | Picks an icon from the library, or uploads your own image (PNG, JPG, or SVG). Tabs without a chosen icon get one picked from their name. |
| **Description and metric** | Adds a short description and a **Headline metric** to the tab. The metric repeats the value of a KPI tile on that page, so viewers see the number before they click. |
| **Open this page first** | Makes this the page viewers land on. The current one shows **Opens first**. |
| **Hide from viewers** | Hides the tab from the strip. The page still exists and can be reached from a button's navigate action. |
| **Navigation settings** | Jumps to the app-wide settings below. |
| **Move out of tabs** | Takes the page out of the app. The dashboard stays. |
| **Delete page…** | Deletes the page. The toast's **Undo** brings it back. |

> **Tip:** A page still called "Page 3" borrows its board title for the tab label. Give it a real name and the tab follows.

### Navigation settings

These settings apply to the whole app. Find them under **Navigation tabs** in the dashboard format pane.

### Position

Where the tabs sit: **Left**, **Top**, **Right**, or **Bottom**.

Left and Right make a vertical rail, which works well for 5 or more pages. Top and Bottom make a horizontal strip, better for 2 to 5 short names.

### Style

How each tab looks:

| Style | Best for |
| --- | --- |
| **Text** | Clean, compact navigation with clear page names. |
| **Icons** | A slim rail when the icons speak for themselves. |
| **Icon + text** | The default. Easy to scan, easy to read. |
| **Buttons** | Tabs that look clickable, good for less technical audiences. |
| **Cards** | Bigger tabs that show each page's description and headline metric. Great for an exec landing page. |

### Selected tab

How the open tab stands out:

- **Bar**: an accent bar on the board's side.
- **Highlight**: the whole tab softly tinted.
- **Filled**: the whole tab in the accent color.
- **Outline**: an accent outline.

**Selected tab color** sets that accent. Leave it empty and the tabs use the page's own accent color, so they match your theme.

### Layout options

- **Wrap long names**: long tab names wrap to 2 lines instead of getting cut off with an ellipsis.
- **Sidebar panel**: puts a vertical rail on a tinted panel, divided from the board.
- **Icons only on narrow screens**: on a phone or a small window, viewers get a slim icon rail instead of a wide strip. It's on by default and never kicks in while you're editing.

### Shared header

Turn on **Show shared header** to put one header above every page:

- **Eyebrow**: a small line above the title (for example, "Finance").
- **Title**: the app's name. Renaming the app renames the header, and the other way around.
- **Subtitle**: a line of context under the title.
- **Badges**: short status chips beside the title, like "Live from Snowflake" or "Updated daily". Type one and press Enter.

### Notes

Add plain-text **Notes** about the data: sources, definitions, refresh timing, caveats. On a vertical rail they sit at the foot of the tabs. On a horizontal strip they sit behind an info button beside the tabs.

### Do it all from chat

Everything above works from chat too. Chat knows which dashboards are in your analysis and which tabs the open app has, so you can talk about them by name.

**Create and organize**

```
Group all my dashboards into tabs
```

```
Add the Churn dashboard as a tab
```

```
Add a blank page called "Forecast"
```

```
Move Pipeline to be the second tab
```

```
Take Customers out of the tabs
```

**Style the app**

```
Move the tabs to the top and use the button style
```

```
Make the selected tab filled in #2563eb
```

```
Put the tabs on a sidebar panel and wrap long names
```

**Header and notes**

```
Set the header title to "Q3 Business Review" with a subtitle "Numbers through Sep 30"
```

```
Add a "Live from BigQuery" badge to the header
```

```
Add a note that revenue excludes refunds and refreshes every morning at 6am
```

When you ask chat to change notes, it keeps what's already there and only edits what you asked about.

**Individual tabs**

```
Rename the Pipeline tab to "Sales Pipeline"
```

```
Give the Revenue tab a dollar sign icon and the description "Bookings and ARR"
```

```
Show the Total Revenue KPI on the Revenue tab card
```

```
Make Overview open first
```

```
Hide the Details tab, it's only reached from the drill button
```

> **Note:** The headline metric reads a KPI tile's last displayed value. If chat says it can't find the KPI, open that page once so the tile shows a number, then ask again.

### Sharing, publishing, and exporting

The app is the thing you share. Outside the editor, everywhere from Home to Spaces, it shows up as a single card.

- **Publish** and **Draft** apply to the whole app. Publishing from any page publishes every page.
- **Share links** and **Slack sharing** point to the app. A viewer who opens a link to one page gets in if the app is shared with them.
- **Export to slides and Copy image** include every visible page in tab order, each named "App · Page", with the shared header on top.
- **Export data** covers the charts on every visible page. Slicers apply only to the page on screen.
- **Present mode**: use the arrow keys to step through the tabs.

Hidden pages are left out of exports.

### Chat for viewers

When someone opens your published app, chat answers about the whole app by default. Ask "what's driving the revenue dip?" and it looks across every visible tab.

Want it focused? Ask about "this tab" and chat narrows to the page on screen. When an answer points to another tab, it comes with an **Open** link that takes the viewer straight there. Switching tabs keeps the conversation going.

### FAQ

**Can a page belong to two apps?** No. Each page lives in one app. Duplicate the dashboard if you need it in both.

**Does each tab keep its own filters?** Yes. Each page is its own dashboard with its own slicers and filters.

**What happens to an app with only one page?** It reads like the dashboard it wraps. Add a second page and the tabs appear.

**Can I undo tab changes?** Deleting a page has an Undo in the toast. For settings like position and style, just change them back.
