Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the most common questions newcomers ask, including how saving and undo work and how to report a bug or follow up on feedback.
Where is my data stored?
It depends on the source. Files you upload are imported: Golden keeps a copy with your analysis and loads it into an engine that runs in your browser when you open it. Warehouse-backed datasets (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift) are queried live - Golden builds SQL and runs it against your warehouse rather than copying the rows into the app.
Does my work save automatically?
Yes. An analysis saves about 3 seconds after you pause, at least every 6 seconds while you keep working, and again when you navigate away. A brand-new analysis first saves 2 seconds after you start. The top bar shows Just saved or Saved 12s ago next to the History button, and Not saved if a save failed.
Can I undo a mistake?
Yes - Cmd Z (Ctrl Z on Windows) undoes the last action in whichever view you're in, or use Undo in the top bar. Redo is Cmd Shift Z or Cmd Y. Each view keeps its own history: Prepare tracks dataset changes, Analyze tracks chart snapshots, Communicate tracks each dashboard separately, and Connect tracks schema edits. The History button lists the steps so you can jump back to one.
What are Spaces?
A space is a container for analyses, dashboards, datasets, and connections. You always have Your space, which is private to you. You can create or be invited to collaboration spaces (shared with specific teammates) and public spaces (anyone in your account can join).
How do I share a dashboard?
Open the dashboard in an analysis that lives in a shared space and click Draft in the dashboard toolbar to publish it; the button then reads Published. Published dashboards appear in the space's Published section for its members. A dashboard in Your space has to be moved to a shared space first - use Share… from its menu.
How do I get help?
Click Help (the question mark) at the bottom of the sidebar to open this Help drawer. Inside an analysis it's at the bottom of the analysis sidebar.
How do I report a bug or send feedback?
Click the round bug button in the bottom-right corner of any screen (Send feedback), or open the command palette and run Submit feedback. The feedback window has three tabs: Report a bug, Request a feature, and Send some kudos.
- The window doesn't block the page, so you can keep clicking around to gather steps while you write. Drag it by its title to move it, or Minimize it to a bar at the bottom of the screen without losing what you typed.
- A bug report takes a screenshot of the page for you under Include a screenshot. Remove it, or use Take a snap to retake it.
- Attach up to five files, each no larger than 10MB.
- Click Submit to send it.
Some error messages carry a Report this bug link. It opens a Something broke? window with the error already filled in under What went wrong, so you only need to add what you were doing.
Can I see what happened to my feedback?
Yes. Open Settings and choose Feedback to see everything you've sent, with its status and last activity. Filter by type or status, and look for the dot that marks new activity. Bug reports move through New, Investigating, Fix rolling out, and Resolved, or end as Could Not Replicate or Won't Fix. Feature requests show New, Acknowledged, On the Roadmap, Rolling out, Released, Not Planned, or Need More Info.
