Build a radial chart

Compare measures around a circle as a radar, radial bar, stellar, radial lollipop or sunburst chart.

3 min readUpdated October 28, 2026

A radial chart lays your categories around a circle, so you can compare several measures or series at a glance. It's one chart type with five styles: Radar, Radial bar, Stellar, Radial lollipop and Sunburst. Open the chart type selector and pick a style from the Radial group. A radial chart that hasn't picked a style draws as Radar.

Fill the shelves

ShelfWhat it holds
AxesThe dimension whose members become the spokes around the circle.
ValuesOne or more measures that set how far each spoke reaches.
SeriesOptional. A dimension that draws one shape per member.
TrellisOptional. Splits the chart into small multiples.
TooltipOptional. Extra fields to show on hover.
  1. Open the chart type selector and pick a style under Radial.
  2. Drag a dimension to Axes.
  3. Drag one or more measures to Values.
  4. Drag a dimension to Series to compare members side by side.

Switch styles

You can change style any time. Open the format pane, find Radial options, and pick one from Style. Your shelves stay as they are.

Format a radial chart

The toggles under Style depend on the style you picked:

StyleOptions
RadarFill area, Normalize axes, Show gridlines
StellarFill area, Normalize axes, Show gridlines
Radial lollipopNormalize axes, Show gridlines
Radial barNone
SunburstNone

When you have more than one measure on Values and nothing on Series, Measure colors lets you pick a color for each measure.

Tip: Normalize axes helps when your measures have very different scales, so one big measure doesn't flatten the rest.

Build one from the chat

Ask the Analyst pane, or the Storyteller pane on a dashboard, for a radial, radar or spider chart. It puts the dimension on Axes and the measures on Values.
