Generate a survey dashboard

Once a survey dataset is loaded, Discover offers a purpose-built board - a Net Promoter board, a battery board of response distributions, or a ranked-bar board of answer shares for a published results report - with controls for segment, period, and sort order.

Survey data has a predictable set of questions asked of it - what is the score, how does it split, which topics are strongest, which segment is dragging. Golden builds a board around those instead of making you assemble it chart by chart.

Generate the board

  1. Load a survey dataset and open Discover.
  2. Look through the Key Questions cards for the survey ones.
  3. Choose "How likely are people to recommend us?" for a Net Promoter board, or "Sentiment distribution by topic" for a battery board.
  4. Wait for the "Dashboard generated!" confirmation - the new dashboard opens in Communicate.
  • How likely are people to recommend us? - scores the recommend question, splits promoters from detractors, and tracks it across survey waves.
  • Sentiment distribution by topic - breaks every question battery into response distributions, sorted so strengths and problem areas land at opposite ends.
  • How respondents answered each question - offered when your file is a published results report, with answer shares already tallied and no individual respondents. Draws every question as a ranked bar of its answer options' reported shares.

What lands on the board

The board opens with a headline panel and a period panel, then a row of KPI tiles, then the charts. Which tiles appear depends on what your survey contains, but the usual set is Net Promoter Score, Questions, Question types, and Respondents, plus a favorable-share tile per question battery.

  • Findings - written observations, each carrying a "Key finding" label.
  • Net Promoter Score by segment - the score broken out by a demographic field.
  • Net Promoter Score over time - the score across survey waves.
  • One diverging distribution panel per question grouping.

The controls card

A single controls card drives the whole board rather than each panel carrying its own filters.

  • Segment - pills for each available segment, starting with Overall.
  • Period - pills for each survey wave, starting with All.
  • Sort questions - Most favorable first, Most unfavorable first, or Survey order.
  • Show neutral - a switch that hides or shows the neutral band on every diverging panel.
Note: Share measures on these boards are named Favorable %, Unfavorable % and Neutral %, with a " (weighted)" suffix when a survey weight is applied, and a battery name appended when a measure belongs to one specific battery.
Tip: Sort questions set to "Most unfavorable first" is the fastest way to find the problem areas - the weakest topics move to the top of every battery panel at once.

A published results report

Some survey data arrives already summarized - a vendor's published results page copied into a spreadsheet, with one row per question and answer option and each option's reported share in a column, and no individual respondents. Golden recognizes that shape and offers "How respondents answered each question" in Discover: one ranked bar panel per question, on a shared 0-100% scale, with shares averaged rather than summed. Because the file holds no individual responses, this board shows how each question's options compare instead of a Net Promoter score or a segment split.

Heads up: The board needs questions and answers that name what was asked. If an export's questions and answers are placeholders, Golden refuses to draw rather than producing a board of meaningless labels.
