View a published dashboard
What you can do on a dashboard someone shared with you: ask the AI from the floating Ask bar, click a chart to explain it, turn findings into charts, and filter the board, without changing the dashboard itself.
When a teammate publishes a dashboard and shares it with you, it opens in a read-only viewer. You cannot move or edit anything on the board, but you can filter it, ask the AI about it, and dig into any chart.
What is in the header
The header is deliberately slim. A breadcrumb runs along the left, and the actions sit on the right. While the dashboard is still loading, only the account menu shows - the rest act on the loaded artifact.
- Breadcrumb - a Home button, the space the dashboard lives in (icon only, name on hover), and the dashboard's title.
- Share - Invite people, Copy image (Copy to clipboard or Download PNG), and Export.
- More options - the "..." menu, which holds the display settings and, if you can edit the analysis, Edit. See below.
- Account menu - your settings, theme, and sign out, the same one the analysis header uses.
Display settings in More options
- Explain charts when I click them - when on, clicking a chart mark analyzes it in the chat panel. It is on by default.
- Show filters - reveals the dashboard's filter bar.
- Page size - Fit to width, Fit whole page, or Actual size. This appears for dashboards only.
- Edit - opens the dashboard in the editor. Only if you can edit the analysis.
Ask the AI with the Ask bar
A floating Ask bar sits in the bottom-left corner over the dashboard. Type into "Ask anything about this dashboard..." and press the arrow, or pick one of the suggested questions, and the chat panel opens with your question already sent. The AI only reads the dashboard, it never changes it.
- Suggested questions - the first one, "Explain this dashboard", is the place to start; the others are "What changed recently?" and "What stands out here?".
- Open chat - opens the chat panel without asking anything.
- Minimize - tucks the bar into a small "Ask AI" button in the corner; click that button to bring the bar back. The bar also tucks away in Fit whole page.
The chat panel
The chat panel opens on the left. Before you ask anything it shows the dashboard's own insights under "Worth a look" and a few questions to start from under "Or ask", plus a tip that you can tap any bar or point on the dashboard to have it explained.
Once a conversation starts, answers read like a document rather than chat bubbles. Your question pins above its answer as a "You asked:" line so a long reply keeps its context, and an answer can end with a "Keep going" list of follow-up questions. The insights move behind an "Insights" menu in the panel header, next to New chat.
Click a chart to analyze it
With "Explain charts when I click them" turned on (in the More options menu), clicking a bar, point, or slice sends it to the chat panel and Golden explains that mark. Turn it off when you just want to click around the board, for example to cross-filter.
Turn a finding into a chart
In an answer, the lead phrase of each finding is a button with a Chart pill beside it. Click it and Golden builds the chart that shows that finding and opens it full screen, so the chart backs the claim the sentence makes. A frame appears immediately and fills in with the chart's title and then its data.
The charts you open full screen and the analyses of marks you clicked are gathered in the Analysis section of the panel, newest first, so you can come back to them after the thread scrolls away. Expand one again or remove it from there.
Your conversation is saved
The conversation is saved for you, per dashboard, and is there when you come back. Other people who open the same dashboard have their own conversations and cannot see yours.
Filter the board
Turn on "Show filters" in the More options menu to reveal the filter bar, then use its filters and any slicer cards on the canvas the same way an editor would. If the bar's Cross-filter switch is on, clicking an element in one chart filters the rest of the board.
Audio briefing
The audio briefing is part of the dashboard editor rather than the viewer, so it is available to people who can edit. In the editor, click the "Audio briefing & Q&A about this dashboard" icon in the dashboard toolbar. On the Audio Briefing tab, choose Quick (about 90 seconds on the headline metrics) or Deep Dive (about 5 minutes of detailed discussion) and click Generate Briefing. You get a player, the Key Findings and a Transcript, and Download audio when the audio was generated as a file. The Ask Questions tab takes questions about the dashboard.
If you do not have access
A link you cannot open shows "You don't have access to this content." with Go back, and in a workspace that allows it, a Request access button that notifies the people who can let you in.
